The Organization
Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) is committed to building a vibrant city and enriching the lives of all Edmontonians. As the largest non-governmental funder of the charitable sector in our City, ECF is in a unique position to address long-term, complex community needs by working with donors, charities, volunteers, government and community partners.
The Opportunity
Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) is seeking a visionary and dedicated Manager, Equity Advancement to lead and fulfill our commitment to advancing equity and inclusion within Edmonton. This pivotal role will focus on advancing our relationships with organizations led by and serving Black, Indigenous and People of Color (BIPOC) and other diverse communities and ensuring our programs and community initiatives actively empower these communities. Reporting to the Vice President, Community Impact, the Manager, Equity Advancement will shape ECF’s equity strategies, foster collaborative relationships, and support meaningful change in our community.
Key Roles & Responsibilities:
- Equity Strategy:
- Lead the development and implementation of ECF’s comprehensive equity advancement strategy, ensuring alignment with our mission, vision, and values.
- Conduct research to identify systemic barriers and propose initiatives to promote equity.
- Community Engagement and Investment:
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with BIPOC and other diverse communities and organizations to foster collaboration and shared goals.
- Expand ECF’s reach into new communities.
- Lead community engagement initiatives, including workshops, forums, and consultations to actively involve diverse voices in ECF’s work.
- In collaboration with the Grants and Community Initiatives team, enhance ECF’s programs for BIPOC and other diverse organizations, ensuring alignment with community needs and maximizing impact.
- Collaborate with the Philanthropy and Donor Engagement team to help identify opportunities to grow funds with individuals and businesses within the BIPOC and other diverse communities.
- Collaborate with community leaders and organizations to identify and develop funding opportunities that promote equity.
- Education and Advocacy:
- Implement training programs and resources for ECF staff and board members on equity best practices.
- Work closely with the ECF leadership team, to integrate equity considerations into ECF’s strategic planning, decision-making and operational program development and delivery processes.
- Lead cross-departmental initiatives to promote a culture of equity and inclusion throughout the organization.
- Engage in sector-wide dialogues and contribute to the development of best practices in equity advancement.
- Monitoring and Evaluation:
- Develop comprehensive metrics and measurement frameworks with the Manager, Impact Assessment, to assess the impact of equity advancement initiatives.
- Regularly report on progress and outcomes, adapting strategies based on evaluation findings and community feedback.
The Ideal Candidate
As the ideal candidate, you will possess the following qualifications:
- A university degree in Social Sciences, Business Administration, Non-profit Management, or a related field.
- A minimum of 7 years directly related and progressive work experience in equity, diversity, and inclusion initiatives, preferably within the non-profit, philanthropic or public sectors; equivalent combinations of related post-secondary education and directly related work experience will be considered.
- Strong understanding and experience working collaboratively with BIPOC and other diverse communities within Edmonton.
Additional requirements include:
- Demonstrated ability to inspire and motivate others around a shared vision for equity and inclusion.
- Skilled in leveraging relationships, insights, and persuasive communication to drive meaningful change within an organization and in the community.
- Proven track record of building support for and advancing equity initiatives. holders.
- Demonstrated experience in collaborative work with diverse communities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to lead organizational change initiatives.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, capable of engaging and educating diverse audiences.
- Understanding of program evaluation and impact measurement principles, with a focus on continuous improvement.
- Superior organizational and project management skills.
- High degree of initiative and ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently with little supervision.
