Manager, Impact Assessment

The Organization

We do this by providing an average of over $33 million in community grants and scholarships each year, thanks to the generous support of thousands of donors. As the largest non-governmental funder of the charitable sector in our City, ECF is in a unique position to address long-term, complex community needs by working with donors, charities, volunteers, government and community partners.

The Opportunity 

The Manager, Impact Assessment plays a key pivotal role in shaping ECF’s strategic direction, fostering a culture of impact measurement and data-driven decision-making and supporting sector-wide practices that drive greater social impact. Reporting to the Vice President, Community Impact, this position is responsible for overseeing internal data management, reporting, and strategic analysis, as well as supporting grant evaluation processes and fostering sector-wide data best practices. 

Key Roles & Responsibilities: 
  • Internal Data Management and Strategic Analysis: 
    • Lead the development and implementation of data management systems and processes to capture key performance indicators (KPIs) and track progress towards strategic plan objectives. 
    • Utilize advanced data analytics tools such as PowerBI and Salesforce to create dynamic dashboards and reports that provide actionable insights to support organizational decision-making. 
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure data integrity, consistency, and alignment with organizational goals. Create tools that allow departments and staff to monitor their own metrics. 

 

  • Grant Evaluation Methodology and Support: 
    • Oversee the methodology for assessment of grant applications, evaluating their alignment with organizational priorities and impact potential. 
    • Support the development of rubrics and methodologies that guide decision-making processes. Work with internal teams to develop, implement, review, and optimize grant assessment processes. 
    • Work closely with grantees to strengthen their capacity in program evaluation and impact assessment, providing guidance and resources to enhance data-driven practices and maximizing the success of funded initiatives. 

 

  • Team Leadership and Collaboration: 
    • Mentor and work closely with the Impact Assessment Analyst to foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning and excellence in data management and analysis within ECF. 
    • Act as a subject matter expert and advisor, providing strategic guidance and support to internal stakeholders and external partners.

 

  • Sector Support 
    • Serve as a thought leader and advocate for data-driven strategies within the charitable sector, participating in industry forums, boards, and working groups focused on advancing data analytics and evaluation practices.

The Ideal Candidate 

As the ideal candidate, you will possess the following qualifications: 

  • A university degree in data science, statistics, business analytics, or a related field; a Master’s degree preferred.  
  • A minimum of 7 years progressive work experience in data management, analytics, and strategic planning, preferably in the non-profit, philanthropic sector or public sector; equivalent combinations of related post-secondary education and directly related work experience will be considered.  
  • Thorough understanding of the principles and practice of research and assessment including statistical analysis, database management and automation, survey design, and other forms of assessment and evaluation.   
  • Demonstrated experience in both quantitative and qualitative impact assessment and program evaluation methodologies.   

Additional requirements include: 

  • Ability to access, analyze, and convert data into strategic information. 
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Salesforce, Tableau, or similar platforms. 
  • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written, including a demonstrated aptitude in communicating data findings and strategic information to diverse audiences. 
  • Excellent collaboration skills, with the ability to work with diverse stakeholders. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interest holder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse teams and external interest holders. 
  • High degree of initiative and ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently with little supervision.
