Call for Volunteers: Community Grants Sub-Committees
Are you passionate about building a stronger, more connected community? Do you have insight into local needs and a desire to support meaningful change? Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF) is looking for thoughtful and engaged volunteers to join our Community Grants sub-committees. If you're ready to help shape how funding supports local organizations, we’d love to hear from you!
The Organization
ECF is committed to building a vibrant community and enriching the lives of all. We do this by providing an average of over $35 million in grants and student awards each year, thanks to the generous support of thousands of donors. As the largest non-governmental funder of the charitable sector in our city, ECF is in a unique position to address long-term, complex community needs by working with donors, charities, volunteers, government and community partners.
The Opportunity
ECF is looking for volunteers to join our Community Grants sub-committees!
As a sub-committee volunteer, you’ll play a key role in supporting local organizations by reviewing grant applications and offering thoughtful recommendations to our Granting Programs Committee.
We’re committed to build diverse and balanced committees that reflect the rich makeup of the Greater Edmonton Area which includes urban and rural communities in Leduc, Parkland, Strathcona, and Sturgeon County. That’s why we strongly encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and members of racialized, linguistic, ethnic, 2SLGBTQIA+ and gender-diverse communities.
We welcome adults of all ages to apply and especially encourage participation from those aged 18 to 35.

Commitment:
As a Community Grant sub-committee member, you will be asked to:
- Review applications and submit written feedback prior to scheduled meetings, held twice per year.
- Participate in two in-person meetings annually — typically in April/May and October/November — to help develop funding recommendations for the Granting Programs Committee. Meetings are held at ECF’s offices and may occur during or after business hours, depending on committee.
- Take part in 1-2 professional development opportunities per year to deepen your knowledge and strengthen your impact.
- Attend occasional ECF events or informal gatherings to stay connected with ECF’s broader community.
- Understanding that not every application can be approved. While declining a request can be difficult, it is an important role of our sub-committees.
- Serve a term of up to three years with the option to renew for a second consecutive term (maximum of six years).
Candidates:
We are seeking 2-3 new members for each sub-committee. The following qualities are considered an asset but are not required. If you’re committed to creating a community where everyone can thrive, we encourage you to apply — whether or not you meet every listed asset.
