The Lu Carbyn Nature Sanctuary is stewarded by the Edmonton and Area Land Trust (EALT), a registered charity that conserves nature in Edmonton and area and engages people and communities in land conservation and stewardship. This 155-acre land in Lac Ste. Anne County was donated to EALT by Lu Carbyn, a renowned wildlife biologist and naturalist. The Sanctuary is located close to Lily Lake Natural Area, as well as several other Crown lands, significant lakes, natural areas, and other protected lands. Collectively, they provide valuable habitat for wildlife. Its undisturbed boreal forest and wetlands is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including over 95 bird species. Songbirds find ideal habitat in the mixedwood forest, and waterfowl and other water birds use the wetlands for nesting and feeding. The biodiversity is impressive: moose, deer, coyote, bats, bears, beavers, lynx, and cougar all live and move throughout the land. With the support of this endowment fund, EALT has been able to accomplish many stewardship activities at Lu Carbyn, including, installing gates, fences, and signs, maintaining trails, bird monitoring, and managing invasive plants. Your donation to the Lu Carbyn Nature Sanctuary Trust Fund will help the Edmonton and Area Land Trust continue to steward this land in perpetuity.
