THORNE, Olive Kathleen Jan 16, 1931 – Feb 6, 2022 Olive was born in the town of Daysland, Alberta where she lived before her family moved to Edmonton to find work during the desperation of the dirty thirties. She attended school in a one room school house up to grade five. When she was sixteen she secured a job as a stenographer at the Swift Canadian Packing Plant. She moved on to working at the Alberta Teachers’ Association in middle management and retired at sixty. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree at age 58 from the University of Alberta. Olive loved adventure and travel with French Polynesia her last destination. Throughout her life she was interested in worthy causes, politics and sports including skiing, swimming, golf and bicycling as she is shown here in her latest tricycle. Olive wanted to see her many friends before her decision to have MAID. However, due to Covid, the gathering was limited to eight. Olive hopes her friends will understand and remember the great fun that she shared with everyone of them. She had hoped to chat with each of her friends but her body ran out of energy. Her parting words: “Keep on going and have fun”. Olive’s favorite charity is her “Olive Thorne Fund”, for research of rheumatoid arthritis with Edmonton Community Foundation. Olive’s second favorite cause is protecting our precious medical system by donating to Friends of Medicare.
