Free Play for Kids

“ECF is a trustedpartner, helping Free Play for Kids turn bold ideas into lasting impact through support, guidance, and collaboration.”

– Tim Adams, Founder & Executive Director, Free Play for Kids

Growing through play With $50,000 of support from our Community Grants Program, Free Play for Kids delivered free, inclusive after- school programming to 720 children in Grades 3 to 6 across 24 high- needs schools. Operating from local recreation centres, the program offered a safe, structured, and fun environment four days a week.

Beyond the games and activities, the biggest impact was the development of social and emotional skills — a change noticed not only by coaches, but by parents and teachers too. By removing financial and logistical barriers, Free Play helps families reduce the strain of poverty while empowering kids to thrive through connection and play.

Brosseau Métis Awards

“Through ECF and the BBMAs, I’ve been embraced by a family that uplifts and reminds me that I’m capable, and deserving, of walking paths I never thought possible.”

-Breane Mahlitz Law student and BBMA recipient

Education is the future The Belcourt Brosseau Métis Awards

(BBMAs) provide financial support to Métis Albertans pursuing post-secondary education, offering scholarships of up to $10,000 each year. Established in 2001 by Orval Belcourt, Dr. Herb Belcourt, and Georges Brosseau QC, the BBMAs foster self-sufficiency and opportunity for Métis students through education and skills development.

Over the past two decades, the BBMAs have awarded more than $12 million to more than 1,800 Métis students across Alberta. Today, the BBMAs remain one of the largest non-governmental sources of funding for Métis learners in Canada — helping students achieve their educational dreams, strengthen their communities, and build a brighter future for generations to come.
