Hospitality workers unite to help fellow industry workers in “Edmonton’s backyard”
In July 2022, the idyllic mountain town of Jasper was engulfed in flames. The Jasper Wildfire Complex ravaged the landscape, forcing evacuations and leaving a trail of destruction. But amidst the chaos, a powerful story of community and compassion emerged.
This episode dives into the inspiring initiative spearheaded by Edmonton’s hospitality industry to support their colleagues in Jasper. We hear from Mary Bailey, publisher of The Tomato Food & Drink magazine, and Scott Downey, co-owner of Butternut Tree and The Marc, who were both instrumental in creation of the Jasper Hospitality Fund. They recount the swift mobilization of restaurants, bars, and cafes to raise funds for displaced workers.
