Sandra Woitas Educational Scholarship Fund

Sandra Woitas is a long time educator, volunteer and tireless advocate for the needs of Edmonton’s most disadvantaged children and families.  She is passionate about spreading the word that poverty cannot be an excuse and by only working together, we, as an entire community, can raise the bar for all children and youth.  She believes we can no longer make excuses for not meeting the needs of our marginalized children and youth and can only be part of the solution.

Sandra became the Executive Director of the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation in September, 2009. She worked hard to raise the profile of Edmonton Public Schools in the community, advocate for public education, build strong partnerships with all stakeholders, and raise funds and/or in-kind resources to support early learning and full-day Kindergarten classrooms in socially vulnerable communities.  It was her strong connections with the Edmonton community, her determination to get her “beansprouts” the support they needed, and her wonderful, unforgettable presence that made the work of the Foundation a success. During her tenure as Executive Director, six high needs schools were given the gift of full-day kindergarten classes. That meant that hundreds of children were given the step up they needed to be on an equal playing field with their peers.

Sandra has left her footprint on the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation and it is through this scholarship that we honor the work she has done on behalf of Edmonton’s most vulnerable children. By providing the means for a student living in poverty to move onto Post-Secondary studies, we are keeping Sandra’s legacy of giving back to her community and its youth, alive.

In partnership with the Edmonton Community Foundation (ECF), the Edmonton Public Schools Foundation is proud to be able to award the Sandra Woitas Educational Scholarship to a student in need on an annual basis for generations to come.  Through the power of endowment, and the support of generous donors, students who may not otherwise have the means to pursue  post-secondary education will now have this opportunity. The funds contributed to this scholarship will be carefully invested to ensure growth year after year resulting in sustainable dollars that will be awarded in perpetuity to help forge an exciting path for students needing a helping hand.
