Call for Volunteers: Grants Sub-Committees

Edmonton Community Foundation is looking for volunteers for our grants sub-committees!

Volunteers play a key role in our granting work. Grants sub-committees review grant applications and provide recommendations to the Granting Programs Committee.

In order to better serve communities, we are seeking to appoint diverse and balanced committees that reflect the diversity of the greater Edmonton Area. We encourage applications from Indigenous peoples, persons with disabilities, and members of linguistic, ethnic, sexual and gender, and other minority communities.

Volunteers can be reimbursed for expenses related to being on a sub-committee, such as childcare or transportation

Applications are due March 9, 2020.

Commitment:

  • Review between 4-10 applications/quarter
  • Meet four time a year make recommendations for the Granting Programs Committee. Meetings may occur during or after business hours, depending on when committee members are available.
  • 1-2 professional development opportunities per year
  • Attendance at some ECF events or informal gatherings
  • An understanding that not all applications can be approved. While declining a request can be difficult, it is a key role of the sub-committees

Candidates:

We are seeking 1-2 new members for each sub-committee:

  • Arts, Culture & Heritage
    • Should have knowledge of the Arts, Culture & Heritage sector
    • Knowledge of dance and/or heritage would be an asset
    • Lived experience of persons with disabilities, immigrants, and/or refugees would be an asset
  • Education & Learning
    • Should have knowledge of the Education & Learning sector
    • Professional knowledge of the K-12 education system would be an asset
    • Lived experience of Indigenous people and/or LGBTQ2S+ people would be an asset
  • Environment & Animal Welfare
    • Should have knowledge of the Environment & Animal Welfare sector
    • Knowledge of one or more of the following would be an asset: urban design and planning; animal welfare; fund development; and/or accounting or financial management
    • Lived experience of Indigenous people, people of colour, and/or immigrants and refugees would be an asset
  • Health & Wellness
    • Should have knowledge of the Health & Wellness sector
    • Knowledge of one or more of the following would be an asset: accounting or financial management; healthcare operations or management
    • Lived experience of non-native English speakers would be an asset
  • Human Services
    • Should have knowledge of the Human Services sector
    • Knowledge of accounting or financial management would be an asset
    • Lived experience of persons with disabilities would be asset
