Métis Scholarships, Awards, and Bursaries
Métis Nation Scholarship Awards (MNA)
Each year, Métis Nation of Alberta provides scholarships to reward outstanding academic achievement. Scholarships are open to Métis students pursuing post-secondary education. Scholarship recipients receive both monetary reward and recognition during the November Métis Week celebration.
The deadline for scholarship applications is October 31st of the current year. Please submit application packages to Kaylee Townend at ktownend@metis.org.
SCHOLARSHIP REQUIREMENTS
1. Students must include completed application form, reference letter, and a written section describing qualifications
2. Students must provide proof of registration, as well as details of the post-secondary program and/or courses in which they are enrolled.
3. Nominations must include the completed nomination form, as well as a letter from the nominator.
Rupertsland Institute (RLI)
Rupertsland Institute Post-Secondary Education (PSE) program is made possible by a funding agreement between the Government of Canada and the Métis Nation of Alberta (MNA). There is no formal connection to the BBMA program. Separate applications will be required.
Rupertsland Post-secondary Education (PSE) funding is available to MNA citizens studying across Canada. They must be an Alberta Resident.
PSE Applications Open: May 3, 2024 for the 2024 – 2025 school year
Rupertsland Institute METIS Online Services – Final Year Program Open: April 1, 2024 for the 2024-2025 school year

Métis Scholar Awards
If you are you a full time Métis student in one of 17 post-secondary institutions in Alberta this is another option for funding.
This award provides financial support in years one to three of your certificate, diploma or undergraduate program.
Métis Scholar Awards are available at the following institutions and all applications must be submitted directly to the appropriate post-secondary institution:

INDSPIRE Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries, Scholarships, and Awards
Indspire’s Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries, Scholarships and Awards (BBF) program opens doors through education.
Since 2004, Indspire has provided over $115 million in financial support to more than 37,500 First Nations, Inuit and Métis students. All Building Brighter Futures donations are matched by the Government of Canada allowing us to be double the impact for students.

- The Settlement Education department is responsible for Strategic Training Initiatives (STIs). These provide training and education to Métis Settlement Members residing on Settlements.

Advancing Futures Bursary
- Funding for post-secondary studies for current and former youth in government care.

Apeetogosan: The Rebecca Kelln Métis Bursary Fund
- $1000 awards for six (6) first year Métis students, one from each Métis region.
- Deadline: Applications accepted January 1 through April 30 annually.

Calgary Community Foundation
- First Nation, Métis, and Inuit Bursary: Three awards of $3,000, applied directly to tuition. There are also many other scholarships and bursaries to apply to.

Indigenous Careers Award
To encourage Indigenous Albertans (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) to pursue and complete post-secondary studies in certificate, diploma, applied degree and bachelor’s degree programs leading to high-demand career outcomes in Alberta.
Value: $2,000 per semester, and maximum of $4,000 per academic year
Indigenous Graduate Award
- To encourage Indigenous peoples living in Alberta (First Nations, Métis and Inuit) to pursue and complete postsecondary studies in certificate, diploma, applied degree and bachelor’s degree programs.
- Students must be enrolled in a master’s or doctoral degree program at one of the following post-secondary schools:

- Alberta Student Aid is for applying for Alberta and Canada student loans.
