This endowment fund was established in loving memory of our parents, Thomas and Teresa Fong.
They met in Montreal, married in Edmonton, and raised three children in a home that showed us their love through the strong cultural ties at the dinner table. We learned that like love, food was meant to be shared. Thomas passed along his passions in the kitchen to his children, and Teresa her values in sharing our blessings with neighbors, friends and those less fortunate. Gardening played a large part in our early years and taught us where our food came from. The garden fed our family and the surplus went to relatives, friends and neighbors. To this day, those of us who tend our own gardens continued that spirit of sharing.
To honor, acknowledge and thank our parents for the values they instilled upon us, the Thomas & Teresa Fong Family Nutrition Fund will equally support Edmonton’s Food Bank and the e4c School Nutrition Program. Through our partnership with the ECF, we children aim to share our good fortune and give back to the Edmonton community at large.
The Thomas & Teresa Fong Family Nutrition Fund is an endowment fund created through the Edmonton Community Foundation, and as such is a registered charity. When you contribute to the Fund, the principal of the fund is invested. Once the fund reaches $10,000, only the surplus income is used to support the organizations that help meet Edmonton’s nutritional deficit. Your gift continues to give, year after year as the principal is never touched. This means your contribution, designed to help Edmontonians facing nutritional challenges, will continue to grow and support those in need for perpetuity.
