Tracy Wright Post Secondary Dance Scholarship Fund

On October 12, 2021, Tracy Leigh Wright passed peacefully away surrounded by friends at Pilgrims Hospice in Edmonton.  Tracy leaves behind many loving friends, colleagues and students. As an educator for close to thirty years with Edmonton Public Schools, most recently working out of Vimy Ridge Academy, Tracy touched the lives of thousands. Her passions included dance, art, film, good food and international travel.

Tracy changed the lives of her students with her direct teaching style, her generous spirit, and her kind heart. She was a fighter for the underdog and took youth under her wing whenever she recognized a need in their personal or academic lives.  She worked tirelessly to ensure students completed their graduation requirements, both in English and in all other subjects.

She organized and directed the Christmas Helping Hampers project for families in need in our catchment every Christmas.

She was an avid supporter of Indigenous content and intentionally and thoughtfully incorporated Canadian Indigenous authors and their literature into her courses.

Tracy loved the performing arts and spent many, many hours enjoying plays and dance performances.  She supported our school community through her attendance at hundreds of performances.  Tracy had a particular fondness for the Grade 12 dancers’ Composition 35 class each year, and took notes on the students’ choreographed performances, offering them feedback on their messages, metaphors, costume choices, and more. This fund has been set up to follow through with Tracy’s wishes.  Tracy’s goal was to help support Vimy Dancers with their dance training goals post-graduation. Through her generous support, we have the opportunity to encourage dancers from Vimy Ridge Academy to pursue dance after high school for many years to come.  We will be presenting scholarships to winning applicants at the end of each school year.

Our hope is to continue to raise money to help dancers achieve their dreams and to be a part of Tracy’s important legacy. We invite all interested community members to donate to the fund and join us in seeing Tracy’s wishes live on.
