To honour Alex’s spirit, his Mom, Dad and brothers have initiated the Alex Mauro Memorial Fund. Alex was born in 2009 to David and Donna and brothers Nicolas and Matteo. He attended St Angela French Immersion School from kindergarten to Grade 6 and was in Grade 8 EAP at Sir John Thompson Junior High School. He enjoyed doing what most 13 year old boys do, especially playing video games, hockey and volleyball, reading and hanging out with friends. He played hockey for KC for 9 years and excelled as a Defenseman and most importantly was known for being a good teammate. He also liked trying new activities and sports such as basketball, lacrosse, roller blading and ball hockey.
Alex especially loved musicals and could recite every word to Hamilton and In the Heights from memory and was a big fan of Lin-Manuel Miranda. He had a unique sense of style and loved dressing in his famous “pink jacket”, wearing the color red and rocking shades.
Alex was known as the kid with the biggest smile and the coolest style. People gravitated toward him – both new and old classmates and teammates. He was the best at making everyone feel loved and included. With his big smile and sparkling blue eyes he would tease you and convince you to do anything – but make you think it was your idea. Alex was very close with his brothers and always copied and followed everything they did – or more often than not, got them to do what he had in mind. He spent a lot of time with his Mom and Dad, watching movies, listening to music and going on adventures.
Sadly, Alex passed away at the age of 13 following a tragic ski accident. While his family continue to be devastated and miss him every day, they have set up this fund to honour Alex’s memory and help others in the community.
