Funds In Memory

Ruby Walter Legacy Fund

The Ruby Walter Legacy Fund was established in honour of our amazing daughter. Ruby is remembered for so many wonderful things that it is hard to capture them all in just a few short sentences. Her spirit was strong, creative, and playful. Ruby enjoyed many hobbies and interests including skateboarding, rock climbing, makeup/beauty, record collecting, and thrifting. She was also a talented artist and musician, and loved animals. Many remember her for spontaneous acts of kindness, her fierce allyship, and her self-assured confidence. As a typical teenager, Ruby had a deep connection to her closest friends. But perhaps not so typically, she expressed love for her family openly. We loved her so much, in return.

Ruby was diagnosed with Ewing’s Sarcoma in December 2020, which was a devastating blow to our family. She also received her cancer care during COVID which added more complexity for this challenging time. Despite the diagnosis, Ruby continued to live with courage, curiosity, and kindness. She inspired family, friends, classmates, and teachers for her resilience and made a lasting difference in their lives.

We lost Ruby when she was just 14 years old on May 30, 2023 but continue to honour her in many ways to keep her memory alive and well. In a tribute to Ruby and to continue what she brought to the world, our family started the Ruby Walter Legacy Fund. The fund will grant annually to a charitable organization that supports one of the passions or causes close to her heart. In her name, we will grant to organizations that support:

  • families with children in cancer care
  • animal rescue
  • access to arts, music, and sports for youth and communities in need
  • equity-seeking groups, including 2SLGBTQ+ communities

Please accept our heartfelt thanks for supporting our family and the Ruby Walter Legacy Fund. Your donation will honour our dear Ruby and will make a meaningful impact in our community for many years to come.
